Thermodiffusion in the Critical Region

چکیده

Long range fluctuations of the order parameter affect thermodynamic as well as transport properties in the critical region. The values of transport coefficients near a critical point are typically enhanced compared to the values in the classical region far away from a critical point. Asymptotically close to a critical point, the critical enhancements obey power laws with universal critical exponents. The asymptotic critical region is surrounded by a large crossover region, where the enhancements are no longer asymptotic but still significant compared to the background values. In binary mixtures, this is also the region where differences are observed in the critical behavior of transport coefficients near liquid-liquid (consolute) and liquid-vapor (plait) critical points. In this contribution, we review the critical dynamics of binary fluid mixtures with a focus on thermodiffusion.

Wave Propagation in Generalized Thermodiffusion Elastic Medium with Impedence Boundary Condition

In the present investigation, we study the reflection of plane waves, that is, Longitudinal displacement wave(P-Wave), Thermal wave(T-Wave) and Mass Diffusive wave(MD-Wave) in thermodiffusion elastic-half medium which is subjected to impedence boundary condition in context of one relaxatioon time theory given by Lord and Shulman theory (L-S) and the Coupled theory (C-T) of thermoelasticity. The...

Two-chamber lattice model for thermodiffusion in polymer solutions

When a temperature gradient is applied to a polymer solution, the polymer typically migrates to the colder regions of the fluid as a result of thermal diffusion ~Soret effect!. However, in recent thermodiffusion experiments on poly~ethylene-oxide! ~PEO! in a mixed ethanol/water solvent it is observed that for some solvent compositions the polymer migrates to the cold side, while for other compo...

Modeling of Thermodiffusion Inertia in Metal Films Heated with Ultrashort Laser Pulses

Previously, we considered the analytical solution of nonlinear diffusion equation in two-dimensional surface. This allows us to consider the same nonlinear heat conduction equation for metals heated by a picosecond laser. After fast thermalization (within a few femtoseconds) of the laser energy and electron excitation in the conductivity band, electrons ballistically diffuse and transfer their ...

A Stochastic Approach to Thermodiffusion

In presence of thermal inhomogeneities, particle diffusion is known to occur even without concentration gradients. This phenomenon, known as “thermodiffusion” or “Ludwig-Soret effect” is well documented since the nineteenth century, and has numerous current applications which range from astrophysics to polymer physics and chemistry. In this contribution, we propose new microscopic stochastic mo...

Temperature dependence of thermodiffusion in aqueous suspensions of charged nanoparticles.

Measurements of particle flows driven by temperature gradients are conducted as a function of temperature on aqueous suspensions of polystyrene nanoparticles and proteins of T4 lysozyme and mutant variants of T4 lysozyme. The thermodiffusion coefficients are measured using a microfluidic beam deflection technique on suspensions with particle concentrations on the order of 1 vol %. At T < or ~ 2...
